What are the age limits?
When you take out or join a new health insurance policy, certain age limits apply.
Adult and Child Dependants
The main member and spouse must be at least 18 years old and younger than 65 years when applying.
Child dependants on your policy must be younger than 21 years. This limit can be raised to 26 years if they are registered full-time students and unmarried.
When they reach the age limit, they will need to take out their own policy to continue uninterrupted cover. This would be
- when they turn 21
- when they turn 26 if they are full-time students
- when they conclude their studies as full-students and are over the age of 21
Policies for Minors
If you want to take out a health insurance policy that only includes children younger than 18 years, then we just need a parent or legal guardian to be the Policy Holder on their policy.
Once they turn 18, and are old enough to own their own policy, then they can take one out for themselves.
