Our Story

Follow Episodic's life story

October 2019

Episodic's story begins in 2019. AfroCentric EssentialMED decides to focus on their core strengths of building and managing a sustainable health insurance product. To do this they decided to become an Underwriting Management Agency. Episodic Health was created as a strategic partner to service the loyal client base and bring a well established product to market.

January 2020

Episodic Health is launched in December 2019 in time for 2020. There was no time for humble beginnings. We hit the ground running powered by years of experience running a successful medical and life insurance book (under EssentialMED).

March 2020

COVID-19 Lockdowns begin. Episodic is fully geared to operate remotely. We continue operating successfully without a hitch throughout the challenging lockdown periods.

June 2020

We take occupancy of our new offices in the Sanctuary Center, returning to work with a full staff compliment. Proudly, our health insurance book has grown and we have not had to make any budget cuts, highlighting the importance of a health insurance product in the South African market.

December 2020

Episodic and EssentialMED do not implement an annual premium increase for health insurance. This is in response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic protocols and the effect it has on South Africans.

March 2021

Episodic launches the new family Funeral Plan to the market. This is underwritten by African Unity Life and offers a very flexible range of cover options up to R50,000 for a choice of up to 13 family members.

The Funeral Plan is well received as it is one of the most configurable and affordable products on the market.

December 2021

Episodic and EssentialMED implement an annual premium increase for the first time in 2 years. Premiums were held constant during the COVID-19 pandemic protocols.

October 2022

Episodic signs with Genric Insurance to create a group health insurance offering to the SME market. Work starts on the collateral and pricing.

The Episodic group health insurance offering has a broad suite of plans that cater for everything from pure Primary Health Insurance to Accident and Hospital cover at a very affordable premium structure.
